Parbati Karki becomes Ncell Crorepati

“Keep working hard; one day your efforts will pay off.” Parbati Karki of Bangepipal, Gangajamuna Rural Municipality-6, Dhading, has always held this belief close to her heart. On Friday, that belief turned into reality in the most remarkable way.

Karki, a humble yet determined woman, was declared the bumper prize winner of Ncell’s Sadhain ON Crorepati campaign. With overwhelming joy and disbelief in her eyes, she received a life-changing cash prize of Rs. 1 Crore at a special ceremony held at Ncell ICON, Lainchaur, Kathmandu.
The campaign, which ran from June 15 to July 16 (Asar 1 to 32), allowed customers who purchased services worth Rs. 99 or more to be eligible for weekly cash prizes of Rs. 100,000 and the bumper prize of Rs. 1 Crore. Karki became eligible after purchasing the 'Basic Renewal' pack worth Rs. 99 during the third week of the campaign. A loyal Ncell customer for eight years, she now stands as a symbol of resilience.

In 2015, her life was shattered by the devastating earthquake that struck Nepal. She lost her one-month-old son, and the newly built family home was reduced to rubble. “Everything we had built and dreamed of collapsed in a moment,” she recalled.

With no other option, the family borrowed money, and her husband left the country for foreign employment. He currently works in Bahrain. Their only son is studying in Grade 12 in Kathmandu. Karki also serves her community as a Female Community Health Volunteer (FCHV), providing health support and guidance to rural families.

The couple once tried their hand at running a small business in Kathmandu. However, the venture resulted in heavy losses, forcing her husband to go abroad again. “We are still repaying those debts, and my husband’s health is not good either,” she shared.

Her journey from tragedy to triumph is a powerful reminder of hope. Karki’s story is not just about winning a prize—it is, in her own words, a miracle. “I have endured so many struggles in life but never gave up and never stopped believing,” she said, overwhelmed with emotion. “This prize feels like a reward for all those years of hardship. I am deeply grateful to the Ncell family for recognising my journey.”

With the prize money, she plans to pay off their remaining debts, bring her husband home, and invest in their son’s future. “No more foreign employment now. We want to start a business together, here in Nepal,” she said with hopeful resolve.

The Sadhain ON Crorepati campaign, originally launched for 12 weeks, was discontinued by Ncell on July 17 in accordance with a directive from the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA). Alongside Karki, 50 other participants each won Rs. 100,000 as weekly cash prizes under this campaign.

“It brings us immense joy to fulfill our promise and award this life-changing bumper prize as part of the Sadhain ON Crorepati campaign,” said Enamul Kabir, Chief Financial Officer of Ncell. “On behalf of the entire Ncell family, I warmly congratulate Parbati Karki. Her story is one of hope. This also reflects our unwavering commitment to keeping our word. We are humbled to be a small part of her journey, and I sincerely hope she uses this reward to realise her dream of starting her own business. We look forward to visiting Dhading once her family is reunited.”

According to Ncell, cash prizes have already been distributed to Karki and 35 other weekly winners, while the verification process for the remaining 15 recipients is ongoing.
