&ldquo;Keep working hard; one day your efforts will pay off.&rdquo; Parbati Karki of Bangepipal, Gangajamuna Rural Municipality-6, Dhading, has always held this belief close to her heart. On Friday, that belief turned into reality in the most remarkable way.

Karki, a humble yet determined woman, was declared the bumper prize winner of Ncell&rsquo;s Sadhain ON Crorepati campaign. With overwhelming joy and disbelief in her eyes, she received a life-changing cash prize of Rs. 1 Crore at a special ceremony held at Ncell ICON, Lainchaur, Kathmandu. 
The campaign, which ran from June 15 to July 16 (Asar 1 to 32), allowed customers who purchased services worth Rs. 99 or more to be eligible for weekly cash prizes of Rs. 100,000 and the bumper prize of Rs. 1 Crore. Karki became eligible after purchasing the &#39;Basic Renewal&#39; pack worth Rs. 99 during the third week of the campaign. A loyal Ncell customer for eight years, she now stands as a symbol of resilience.

In 2015, her life was shattered by the devastating earthquake that struck Nepal. She lost her one-month-old son, and the newly built family home was reduced to rubble. &ldquo;Everything we had built and dreamed of collapsed in a moment,&rdquo; she recalled.

With no other option, the family borrowed money, and her husband left the country for foreign employment. He currently works in Bahrain. Their only son is studying in Grade 12 in Kathmandu. Karki also serves her community as a Female Community Health Volunteer (FCHV), providing health support and guidance to rural families.

The couple once tried their hand at running a small business in Kathmandu. However, the venture resulted in heavy losses, forcing her husband to go abroad again. &ldquo;We are still repaying those debts, and my husband&rsquo;s health is not good either,&rdquo; she shared.

Her journey from tragedy to triumph is a powerful reminder of hope. Karki&rsquo;s story is not just about winning a prize&mdash;it is, in her own words, a miracle. &ldquo;I have endured so many struggles in life but never gave up and never stopped believing,&rdquo; she said, overwhelmed with emotion. &ldquo;This prize feels like a reward for all those years of hardship. I am deeply grateful to the Ncell family for recognising my journey.&rdquo;

With the prize money, she plans to pay off their remaining debts, bring her husband home, and invest in their son&rsquo;s future. &ldquo;No more foreign employment now. We want to start a business together, here in Nepal,&rdquo; she said with hopeful resolve.

The Sadhain ON Crorepati campaign, originally launched for 12 weeks, was discontinued by Ncell on July 17 in accordance with a directive from the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA). Alongside Karki, 50 other participants each won Rs. 100,000 as weekly cash prizes under this campaign.

Parbati Karki becomes Ncell Crorepati

For the convenience of general consumers, Ncell is now working to issue new mobile numbers starting with the 971 number range, in line with the permission granted by the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA). The company has stated that it is preparing to start distributing the new SIMs by July 31. 
 
On May 28, 2025, NTA permitted Ncell to use this new number range. The new number range has been allocated to Ncell as the previously issued ranges&mdash;980, 981, 982, and 970&mdash;have become insufficient to meet demand for mobile numbers.&nbsp;

This new mobile range has been allocated in line with the rules under the NTA&rsquo;s National Numbering Allocation Plan. Beyond telecom services, mobile numbers are increasingly essential for various purposes such as receiving One-Time Passwords (OTPs), signing up and verification for mobile apps and web-based services, and conducting digital transactions. 
 
Ncell has requested all service providers, government agencies, non-government organizations, private sector companies, banks, and financial institutions to integrate/update their systems to accommodate this new number range, similar to the existing ones, for seamless customer service.

Ncell Foundation, in collaboration with Khaalisisi and Budhanilkantha Municipality, successfully organised &lsquo;BIN THERE, HACKED THAT!&rsquo;, the first of its kind flagship waste hackathon on the occasion of World Environment Day 2025.&nbsp; 
 
In this groundbreaking event that brought together over 400 applicants, culminating in 13 finalist teams. After an intense day of mentoring, pitching, and prototyping on World Environment Day, &nbsp;the finalists developed and showcased innovative, tech-driven solutions to tackle Nepal&rsquo;s escalating waste management crisis.

Team EcoLoop from Thapathali Campus, Institute of Engineering (IoE) clinched the first position for their innovative solution under the theme Digitize Trash. EcoLoop presented a tech platform that enables households to segregate, track, and dispose of waste responsibly while earning rewards through a gamified system. Team Ecoloop includes Nitesh Kumar Sah, Dharmendra Singh Chaudhary, Ramesh Kathayat, and Bipin Kumar Marasin from Thapathali Campus, IOE.&nbsp; 
 
Likewise, Team Fullstackzerowaste, a team of students from King&#39;s College Nepal, consisting of Anshu Regmi, Rojan Shrestha, and Kabish Pokhrel stood as the First Runner-Up. Their project, aligned with the Landfill to Circularity theme.&nbsp;

The Second Runner-Up was Team Source Code, represented by students from Kathmandu University&rsquo;s Department of Artificial Intelligence. Team members Aman Kumar Jha, Anshu Patel, Vhabuk Thapa, and Aayush Gautam created a data-driven solution under the Waste Without Smoke theme, using AI to help municipalities optimise waste management and track CO2 emissions.&nbsp;

&ldquo;This is the kind of grassroots innovation Nepal needs,&rdquo; remarked Hon&rsquo;ble Minister of Forests and Environment, Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri, who attended the final showcase along with the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Budhanilkantha, Ward Chairs, and the Chief Administrative Officer. &ldquo;Waste is not only an environmental issue&mdash;it is an economic and social one. These young innovators are lighting the path forward.&rdquo;&nbsp;

The hackathon marked a bold and forward-looking step toward circular innovation in Nepal. By mobilising young minds, technologists, and environmental changemakers, the event highlighted the power of collaboration and creativity in addressing one of the country&rsquo;s most pressing urban challenges.&nbsp;

Looking ahead, the top three teams will receive mentorship and incubation support from Confederation of Nepalese Industries Young Entrepreneurs Forum (CNIYEF) and will be fast-tracked for pilot opportunities through Khaalisisi and Budhanilkantha Municipality and CNIYEF. Their solutions are now being prepared for real-world implementation in collaboration with municipalities and industry partners. 
In this hackathon, participants were tasked with prototyping real-world solutions for sustainable waste management. Teams worked intensively to develop ideas ranging from smart waste segregation systems and recycling platforms to community-driven composting technologies and data-powered waste tracking tools.&nbsp;

Beyond the competition, the event showcased how strategic alliances between the public and private sectors can create an impactful, scalable solutions. The hackathon spotlighted young changemakers using code, creativity, and climate commitment to reimagine Nepal&rsquo;s waste economy.&nbsp;

The hackathon emphasised four key themes&mdash;Landfill to Circularity, Waste Without Smoke, Women in Waste Entrepreneurship, and Digitize Trash. Notably, over 40% of finalist teams were led or co-led by women&mdash;signaling a promising shift in inclusivity in a sector where women represent less than 5% of the workforce.

The hackathon represented a powerful convergence of the private sector, government, and civic innovators. It was co-organised by Golyan Group and supported by a strong network of partners including Plast Nepal Foundation, Coca-Cola Beverages Nepal, CNIYEF, Nabil Bank, Grow By Idea, CloudFactory, Fusemachines, Ace Institute of Management, Model Institute of Technology (MIT), and Byapar Pathshala.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed and exchanged amidst a programme organised by KMC on Wednesday, marking a collective commitment to empower youth through practical skills and training.

On behalf of KMC, the MoU was signed by Shailendra Jha, Coordinator of the Skill Fair Management Committee of the KMC in witness of member of Gatishil Nepal the implementing partner of the Skill Fair. Special Ability Support Skill training is a newly added area this year. Under this category, training is being conducted in two professions&mdash;housekeeping and care services. The housekeeping training is designed for facilitators working with children with hearing disabilities, while the care service training is intended for facilitators of children with Down Syndrome and Autism. Under the electronics, the training sector includes laptop repair technician, AC and refrigerator repair, CCTV repair, and mobile phone repair.

In the garments sector, there is a training in garment fabrication and basic fashion designing. Likewise, under construction sector, training like electrician, plumbing, masonry, welding, and carpentry is being imparted. In the hospitality sector, training is being conducted in four professions&mdash;Barista, Waiter, Fast Food, and Bakery.&nbsp;

In the automobile sector, training is available in three professions&mdash;electric vehicle (EV) maintenance, light vehicle engine repair, and maintenance of both electric and fuel-powered motorcycles and scooters. Under the art and sculpture category, Thanka Painting and Ceramics (terracotta) trainings are being imparted. Training is also being provided in astrology and priesthood.

In the agriculture sector, training is being conducted in flower decoration. Similarly, training related to the stock market is also underway.

Ncell, in collaboration with Uptrendly, has announced the launch of League of Creators, a dynamic nationwide initiative aimed at discovering and empowering Nepal&rsquo;s next generation digital content creators.&nbsp;

With the hype stating &lsquo;Create. Compete. Conquer.&rsquo;, this multi-phase competition offers aspiring creators a platform to showcase their talent under the theme &lsquo;My Network, My Connectivity&rsquo;, gain nationwide visibility, and win exclusive rewards&mdash;including a one-year brand deal with Ncell worth Rs. 10 lakhs!&nbsp;

The initiative also includes challenge rounds with new creative briefs and evaluation by expert jury members.

The League of Creators&rsquo; Grand Finale Carnival will be organised on June 28, 2025, announcing the winner and celebrating top performers with live entertainment programme. Ncell launches ‘League of Creators’: A Nationwide Talent Hunt to Empower Nepal’s Digital Storytellers

Ncell Foundation proudly celebrates the extraordinary achievement of Mr. Pemba Sherpa, a kidney transplant survivor, who successfully summited Mount Everest. Pemba Sherpa is the first kidney transplant recipient to achieve this feat.

This historic achievement not only exemplifies the incredible strength of the human spirit but also stands as a powerful testament that nothing is impossible when dream is fuelled by strong determination. He reached the summit on the morning of May 14.

Ncell Foundation is proud to have supported Pemba in this journey. More than a personal triumph, this achievement served as a beacon of hope for those facing physical challenges, demonstrating the limitless potential of the human spirit and on the other this journey symbolized the urgent call for climate action. He used this platform to raise awareness about the critical need to protect and preserve the Himalayas, which are increasingly vulnerable due to climate change.

Sharing his win emotionally, Pemba said, &ldquo;My health remained strong throughout the summit. &ldquo;I&rsquo;m standing on the Top of the World representing 850 million kidney patients across the globe to show nothing is impossible. This journey was also a call to save our melting Himalayas. I had reached out to many, but on Ncell Foundation believed in my dream and made it possible. I&rsquo;m truly thankful for their support.&rdquo;

Ncell Foundation celebrates Pemba Sherpa’s Everest Summit, a historic achievement by a kidney transplant survivor

Marking World Environment Day 2025, &lsquo;Bin There, Hacked That&rsquo;, the first of its kind flagship waste hackathon, is being organised bringing together techies, creatives, entrepreneurs, and climate leaders to tackle Nepal&rsquo;s growing waste crisis through technology and creativity.&nbsp;

This milestone event is being hosted jointly by Ncell Foundation, Khaalisisi and Budhanilkantha Municipality on June 5 at the Budhanilkantha Municipality Hall, bringing together the country&rsquo;s brightest problem-solvers to reimagine waste as an opportunity.&nbsp;

The hackathon marks a powerful Public-Private Partnership (PPP) between digital pioneers, Nepal&rsquo;s formal waste management sector, and progressive local government. The hackathon aims to catalyse scalable, tech-enabled solutions that address pressing challenges in waste management, recycling infrastructure, plastic pollution, and the empowerment of informal waste workers, especially women.&nbsp;

&ldquo;Ncell Foundation is proud to support this landmark initiative that blends digital innovation with environmental stewardship. We believe this hackathon will unlock creative, tech-first solutions to one of Nepal&rsquo;s most pressing civic challenges&mdash;waste,&rdquo; said Bishakha Lakshi Khadka, Director at Ncell Foundation &amp; Special Projects.&nbsp;

Nepal generates over 3,000 tons of waste daily, yet formal recycling systems remain underdeveloped, and women represent below 5% of the total waste workforce. &lsquo;Bin There, Hacked That&rsquo; seeks to change that narrative by fostering innovative, inclusive, and actionable ideas to drive a circular economy centred on community, dignity, and climate resilience.&nbsp;

&ldquo;This is more than just a hackathon&mdash;it&rsquo;s a national call to rethink waste as a source of innovation, income, and impact,&rdquo; said Amun Thapa, Founder &amp; CEO of Khaalisisi. &ldquo;With this platform, we are building pathways for youth, women, and technologists to co-create Nepal&rsquo;s circular future.&rdquo;

Applications for the waste hackathon remain open until 28 May 2025, inviting students, startups, engineers, designers, coders, informal sector champions, and anyone passionate about building a cleaner and smarter Nepal. Selected groups will be developing the solutions on the thematic areas that include Landfill to Circularity, Waste Without Smoke, Women in Waste Entrepreneurship and Digitize Trash.&nbsp;

Ncell becomes first Nepali telecom to champion disability inclusion, signs GSMA principles

Ncell has updated its weekly Flash Sales offer on Saturdays to include 24-hours unlimited access to favorite social media platforms.&nbsp;

Expanding its customer service further, Ncell has introduced a new concept with the launch of its &lsquo;Ncell Shop-in-Shop&rsquo;. The company&rsquo;s first Shop-in-Shop officially came into operation from today in Bhairahawa.

This first Ncell Shop-in-Shop has been launched in partnership with its Point of Sales (PoS) partner&mdash;New Lumbini A 2 Z Mobile, located in Mailawar, Bhairahawa. Ncell&rsquo;s Chief of Staff, Stephen Rodriguez, inaugurated the Shop-in-Shop amid a special ceremony on Thursday.

Through the Shop-in-Shop, customers can access all services, from basic inquiries to the full range of services just like from Ncell Centers.
